4X4 TRAILS  

Sukkelpoort:
extreme 4x4’ing
initiated by Garden route 4X4 Club
Rating 3
trail runs along a narrow kloof
5 km, 3 hours
joins abseil trail for 4km
follow beautiful mountain route back
beautiful scenery
whole route will take you about 4 hours to complete

 

Blouberg trail:
3 km up a mountain
last part, fairly steep up to 45 degrees
home to the famous “Honey Bush Tee” tree
beautiful views
1.5 hours to complete

 

 Kouga river trail:
runs from farmhouse over the mountain to the Kouga river
enjoy the sandbanks of the river
“Black Bass” fishing
excellent place to laze for the day and make a braai
7km to river, 20 minutes
return via same route, or join main road back to farm
                                   

Abseil trail:
8km, 1.5hour retour route
see the highest peak in the area, Smuts Berg Peak
see Tsitsikamma mountain range
drive till the top of the abseil rock

ABSEILING
AND
CLIFFHANGING 
 

Beginner’s Rock:
18 meters high
under guidance of a professional abseil instructor
abseil equipment is provided
abseil on demand  (at least 8 people)
R50 p.p.p. abseil

Leopard’s Rock:
Overlooking the camping area
80 meters
for the advanced abseilee
 under guidance of a professional abseil instructor
R 100 p.p.p. abseil
abseil equipment is provided
a ½ hour hiking trail leads to the top\bottom
 abseil on request (at least 8 people)

Rock climbing:
at Leopard’s Rock
mountain club members plotted 35 different routes
there are 4 bolted routes
bring own mountaineering equipment
a½ hour hiking trail leads to the top/ bottom

BIRD WATCHING  

over 70 species to be found here
from the majestic Black Eagle to the tiny Cape White-eye
come and explore for yourself

CAMPING  

underneath big old Oak trees
nearly 1 hectare lawn available for camping

8 campsites, 6 people per site
ablution block, with 4 showers, warm water, very neat!
braai’s available on the site

Black Bass in the Kouga River

FRUIT:

 

Apricots:
there are mainly 2 cultivators on the farm, namely Cape Babeco
and Soldone, which is used in the drying process.
the whole process takes place from December till February
and can be observed when on the farm.
homemade Jam are made from the Cape Babeco, and
can be bought at R20 per bottle.

Oranges:
there are mainly one cultivar on the farm, namely the “Cape Navel”
the picking process takes place during June/July

HIKING TRAILS:  

Round the mountain hiking trail:
an easy trail, recommended for older people
1½ km long circle route

Waterfall hiking trail:
nature lover’s paradise offering lots of surprises
a 3 km circle route of about 3 hour
follows a waterfall stream up an indigenous forest
waterfalls, indigenous pristine forest, “Ratelberg”
  the forest offers a wide variety of trees

Abseil hiking trail:
on the doorstep of the guesthouse
easy hiking conditions, up and down the abseil mountain
experience the sunset from the top
45 minutes casual walk to the top
popular even for elderly people

Koos-se-bos-hiking trail: " Cycad route "
a 15 km retour route, can easily be done within 6-8 hours
hiking trail follows  a perennial river through a natural forest
untouched indigenous forest surrounded by steep cliffs   
only a few mountaineers ever  have explored this kloof
from the guesthouse a 45 minute walk to the secret forest
a 3 hours route through the forest
a must for the adventurer and layman explorers

happens once a year, and is a great hit!
motorbike, quad and 4x4 rally
